Had to measure myself correctly and was a larger size than i thought, so don't guess your size or they will be too tight. they stayed in place for the ride that was about 3hrs of up and downhill tracks. They gave me good confidence while not wearing my usual full hard setup. I would happily buy them for my kids now. Definitely better if you have them covered by shirt and pants tho as the fabric will tear if you scrape against something.
