The obvious question is how do these shoes compare to five tens? Well, firstly their sole is noticeably stiffer than the Freerider, which gives you better power transfer. There is a flip side however, the stiffer sole means you get a less damped feel when compared to the five ten's. Secondly the rubber compound is less sticky than the five ten's. You can expect your feet to start moving about when you start hitting rough stuff, where typically the five ten's would still be velcro'd to the pedals. Aside from the harder compound rubber not being a sticky when compared to the five ten's, the harder rubber actually wears out faster than the five ten's softer compound. The shoes fit is good, being wider than the five ten's similar size. I found the Leatt shoes in a US 12 to equal a five ten's 12.5, so same length but wider at the ball of the foot. The texture of the shoe material looks suede, but does attract dirt as much as you would think and the laces have an elastic element to them. This means that once your laces have been tightened, the shoes stays in place and doesn't loosen over the course of the ride. The last point to be aware of is that tongue of the shoes does sit rather high on the foot when compared to the five ten's, but this helps defect trail debris from falling in the the shoe. These are solid shoes for the price, they perform well and last. If you are open to trying something new, these are well worth a look.
