G SES is where aerodynamics meet the realities of modern gravel. As gravel racing has evolved, the demands on equipment have changed with it. Higher speeds now require larger-volume tyres – not only for comfort and handling, but to prevent flats from hidden rocks and ruts in the pace line. Pair those speeds with today’s wide tires, and a huge aerodynamic opportunity opens up. The G SES 4.5 and 4.5 PRO balance all performance attributes to deliver a more versatile performance solution for gravel riders and racers who place value in weight savings and nimble handling over all out aerodynamic efficiency, while delivering top honours in aerodynamics when compared to gravel aero wheels of greater or equal depth (with G SES 6.7 the sole exception)
- New rim laminate using higher modulus, lower areal weight carbon fiber
- 30 mm inner-rim width maintain clean airflow at the tyre’s leading edge, smoothing the transition across the rim sidewall, yielding significant aerodynamic savings at the modern tyre sizes between 44 and 52mm - sizes that today’s gravel riders actually use.
- Rim Depth Front/Rear: 60/67
- Innerdrive PRO Hub
- ENVE PRO Ceramic Bearings
- Lightweight rim graphics
- Wheelset weight: 1480 grams (including valves and tape)
OFF-ROAD CARBON EXPERTISE
ENVE’s expertise in making rims that have the impact strength to endure the most demanding off-road terrain goes back nearly two decades. The needs of an off-road tyre are different than on road, which requires unique test protocols and design elements. One such element borrowed from our line of mountain bike wheels is the Wide Hookless Bead technology that reduces pinch flats by creating a wider, blunt leading edge that dissipates impact energy.
AERODYNAMIC PERFORMANCE
We had a lot of questions around gravel racing and aerodynamics. A few years ago, we put a plan in place to answer those questions. We wanted to know how aero we could make a gravel wheel/tyre system by optimizing the rim shape to modern-high volume gravel tyres. The G SES 4.5 builds off the prolific success of the SES 4.5’s design by delivering superior handling dynamics, versatility, and weight savings, with aerodynamics that are unmatched when compared to gravel aero wheels of equal or greater depth (with the exception of the G SES 6.7).
INNERDRIVE GOES PRO
At the core of the G SES 4.5 PRO wheel is the Innerdrive PRO Hubset, which brings ENVE’s proven driver technology to an ultralight straight-pull hub shell. After benchmarking the lightest hubs on the market for weight, stiffness, and durability, we refined Innerdrive for lightweight performance while maintaining the system’s reliability. At just 281 grams for the hubset (rear 194 grams, front 87 grams), the Innerdrive PRO goes head-to-head with the lightest hubs out there without sacrificing the stiffness required by the world’s best.
Utilizing the same Innerdrive technology featured in the Premium Straight-Pull hubs that have been raced in the World Tour for their second season, the Innerdrive PRO Hubset receives the very hop-up kit developed for our professional teams. This includes a light-action ratchet spring for drag reduction and a 40-tooth count ratchet. Like the Premium Innerdrive Hub, the Innerdrive PRO Hub uses the same spoke alignment feature to reduce spoke twisting.
PRO CERAMIC BEARINGS
Bearing drag is influenced by numerous factors, including the bearing seals, ball bearings, races, and carrier. Other factors such as manufacturing consistency, tolerance, grease content and viscosity play roles as well. To control each of these variables, we worked with a leading bearing vendor to create what we believe to be the best ceramic wheel bearing available. ENVE’s new PRO Ceramic Bearings feature hardened stainless-steel races that won’t rust, grade 5 ceramic balls, non-contact seals on the interior-facing bearing for drag reduction, and low-contact seals on the outboard bearing faces to keep out debris. The ENVE Pro Ceramic Bearing solution is one that feels fast in-hand and promises reliability in the long run.
